A key aim of the EqUIP platform has been to identify thematic issues around which there would be added value in bringing together European and Indian social science and humanities perspectives and expertise. It was important to partners that these thematic priorities were expert-led as far as possible.  Consultation with a nominated expert group suggested five broad thematic areas for further development and refinement.

  • Inequalities, Growth and Place/Space
  • Digital Archives and Databases as a Source of Mutual Knowledge
  • Sustainable Prosperity, Wellbeing and Innovation
  • Social Transformations, Cultural Expressions, Cross-Cultural Connections and Dialogue
  • Power Structures, Conflict Resolution and Social Justice

Between October 2015 and October 2016 EqUIP hosted a series of symposia events with invited experts from partner countries to foster networking and share their knowledge of areas of strength, emerging areas and gaps in knowledge, resources and expertise to potentially inform strategic collaboration opportunities in future.  Invitations were sent to nominations from partner agencies who had been carrying out research that fell primarily within the Social Sciences and Humanities, but were comfortable engaging with topics beyond their immediate area of expertise and with significant experience of  Indian collaboration, ensuring as far as possible that there was a balance of gender and humanities and social science expertise from India and Europe at each event

A final Summary Symposia invited a small group of convenrs and discussants from each event to identify cross-cutting, cross-disciplinary areas and further discuss areas that could benefit from Europe-India collaboration.
