Few days to go before the EqUIP Joint Learning Workshop

Exchange of information, experiences, and reflections on how making research collaboration on Social Science and Humanities between India and the EU stronger and more coordinated: this is the objective a 1 and a half day Joint Learning Workshop that will be hosted by the Research Council of Norway, in Lysaker (Oslo) on 15th and 16th September  2015.

The Joint Learning Workshop targets especially funding agencies. Approximately fifty representatives of European and Indian funding agencies, and other stakeholders from India and Europe, will take part to the event.

Besides EqUIP partners, three additional Indian research institutions have been invited: the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR); the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR); and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Moreover, a list of stakeholders belonging to the world of European funding organisations, Indian Not-for-profit Organisations or Non-Governmental Organisations, Non-governmental International Funding Agencies and EU network/commissions have been invited to participate in the JLW.

Participants will share and discuss their previous experiences on SSH EU-India collaboration, sharing best practices and identifying common approaches and barriers to effective research cooperation. Then they will be asked to discuss a series of possible options for effective EU-India multilateral funding format for Indo-European SSH collaboration beyond the lifetime of the Equip project. Possibilities are several, and might include co-coordinated calls, bilateral calls, opening up existing ERA-NETS for Indian participation, to quote a few.

Discussions will be supported through participative methodologies of brainstorming and policy making, such as Card Games and scenario building through the Disney Method and the World Cafè Method.

The objective is bringing the discussion to a concrete, planning level, considering the definition of very specific issues such as the role and responsibility distribution, finance and funding model design and management (complaints, transparency/blaming, accountability, virtual common pot), or the procedures of joint decision making, priority selection, peer review and project monitoring.

A report of the outcomes of the Joint learning workshop will be prepared by the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) and will include the provision of “best practice” examples and coping strategies for research funding agencies to aide in future collaborations.
